TRAINING PROGRAMME ON INTEGRATED PESTS MANAGEMENT AND INTEGRATED NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT FOR PADDY CROP

The Directorate of Environment, Manipur organized two-day (12 & 16 August, 2016) training on “Integrated Pests Management (IPM) & Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) for Paddy crop”. The training on 12th August, 2016 was conducted at the Office of the Pradhan, Phayeng Gram Panchayat and continued on 16th August, 2016 at Konsang Lampak Community Hall, Phayeng. The key objective of the training programme was to broaden the participants’ knowledge on modern techniques of eco-friendly pests’ management practices and secondly to made them aware of proper nutrient management system regarding paddy crop. More than 80 farmers from Phayeng participated in the training.

On the first day of the training programme, Shri N. Ajit Singh, SMS, Plant Protection, KVK Ukhrul highlighted the importance of Integrated Pests Management practices in modern agriculture. A brief description of IPM was made to the farmers along with different component of this system. Besides, there was an interaction session in which many farmers were seeking advice on chemical control of different insect-pests encountered in their paddy fields. In response to this, certain types of new pesticides were recommended by the expert. Awareness regarding spraying techniques by knapsack sprayers for different insect/pests was also given to the farmer participant during the last part of the training programme.

 

The training programme conducted on 12th August, 2016 at the Office of the Pradhan, Phayeng Gram Panchayat was continued on 16th August, 2016 at Konsang Lampak Community Hall, Phayeng. Shri Gunamani Luwang, SMS, Plant Protection, KVK, West Imphal and Shri N. Ajit Singh, SMS, Plant Protection, KVK Ukhrul conducted the remaining part of the training programme.

Shri Gunamani Luwang for the first time introduced the use of Leaf Colour Chart (LCC) at the programme for detection of nitrogen availability in soil. He also told about the correct doses of fertilizers along with timely method of application for paddy crop to the farmers. Information regarding proper nutrient management for paddy crop with the use of different soil inputs was also provided. Around 40 farmer participants from Phayeng attended the training programme.

Shri N. Ajit Singh mentioned about the idea of Economic Threshold Level for different pests of Paddy crop for judicious use of pesticides during crop. At the last part of the programme a field visit was made at Soirou Loukon where Shri Gunamani Luwang demonstrated the use of LCC to the farmers. Later on, some LCCs were also handed over to the members of Agri- Committee, Phayeng village by the resource persons.
