Consultation Workshop on Finalization of State Action Plan on Climate Change, Version 2

A consultation workshop on finalization of State Action Plan on Climate Change was held at Hotel Classic Grande on 18th December 2021 under the agenda: final input on strategies and action plan for Manipur State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC) version 2 (2021-2030) on four sectors.

  1. Forest and Biodiversity
  2. Water Resources
  3. Health
  4. Agriculture and its allied

The workshop was participated by officers from concerned departments/agencies, subject experts/scholar from Manipur University, Central Agricultural University, NIT-Manipur, ICAR-Manipur, Individual subject experts along with senior journalists and media fellow recipients on climate change reporting in Manipur,2020-21.

Welcome address and key note was given by Dr. T. Brajakumar, Joint Director, Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Manipur. In his address, he mentioned about the gaps present in the SAPCC version 1 and the need to rectify those gaps in the new version 2. Priority on the projects, ongoing as well as proposed need to be addressed with proper coordination with the line departments.

Expert member at the workshop, Prof. N H Ravindranath, IISc, Bangalore gave a short talk through power point presentation on the topic, “Global Climate Change Policy-downscale at sub-national level”. Carrying on the program, discussion and interaction on the 4 sectors, viz. Forest and Biodiversity, Water Resources, Health and Agriculture and its allied took place to finalize the proposed plan and actions for SAPCC version-2.

Dr. Indu K Murthy, Principal Research Scientist, Centre for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP), Bangalore also gave a presentation on ‘Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment on Human Health in Manipur’.

The workshop concluded with closing remarks from the three chairperson, Prof. N Mohendro Singh, Dr. E. Jadu Singh and Prof. E. Bijoykumar Singh, and an interaction with the state media fellow recipients and the staff of Directorate of Environment and Climate Change.
